Frequently asked questions
How much will it cost?
We charge for text documents according to the number of source words. The cost per word depends on many factors, including the format of the document, the difficulty of the text, the source and target language, whether third-party editing and proofreading is needed, etc. Ask us for a free quotation.
How do I know you'll do a good translation?
Try us! If you are interested in a translation of more than 1,000 words, ask us to send you the first 300 words, and if you are not entirely satisfied, we will charge only a nominal fee of 15€.
Alternatively we can send you some samples of texts we translated that are available to the general public (we will not send texts in other circumstances out of respect for our clients' confientiality).
I need a website translating. Should I copy and paste it into Word?
NO!! Why make life complicated? We use software that extracts all the text that needs translating from your website, including page titles, image titles and alternative text, while protecting the code itself. What we send you back will be ready for publishing online, so you won't need to copy and paste from a Word document to html files. Our software can also perform a word count on html files.
Do you translate pdfs?
Yes, but there is an additional charge since it makes the translation process much more complex. Even if you can copy and paste from the pdf, you'll usually have problems with line breaks and with the format. If at all possible, you should try to obtain the file from which the pdf was created, irrespective of whether the file is in a common format like Microsoft Word or a less common format like Quark or InDesign.
I need an 8,000-word document translating for tomorrow. Can you do it?
I'm afraid not. Most translators can only manage 2,000 words a day. Timtranslates.com works with only a handful of carefully selected translators, so the chances of us finding enough translators available to take on a job at such short notice would be very slim. Furthermore, when we do have to divide a text up, the final text is always read through in its entirety by Timothy Barton, which for an 8,000-word document would take a whole day on its own. If you are not sure whether your deadline is feasible, just send us an e-mail and we'll tell you.
How do I pay?
You may pay by bank transfer into a Spanish or British bank account, or if you are based outside these two countries, you can pay using Paypal or Moneybookers. Quotes are normally given in EUR or GBP.
Where is timtranslates.com based?
We are based in the town of Sant Quirze del Vallès, just outside the city of Sabadell, about 15 km (10 miles) outside Barcelona (Catalonia).
